Students will explore engaging literature through thoughtful discussion, guided analysis, and collaborative conversations. Each unit focuses on a carefully selected book, encouraging students to examine characters, themes, writing style, historical context, and the deeper ideas presented by the author. Through Socratic discussion, students will develop critical thinking skills, strengthen reading comprehension, and learn to express their ideas with confidence. Optional reading guides and at-home activities are available for families who would like to extend learning beyond the classroom.

September: The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin
October: Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway
November: Call of the Wilde by Jack London
January: The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom
February: Jack and Jill by Louisa May Alcott
March: Animal Farm by George Orwell
April: Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson
May: The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster
Students may combine any four Book Club selections to complete a full-year literature course and earn one high school credit. Any two Book Club selections may be combined for a semester credit. Liberty Grace Academy has reviewed topics that may be of parental concern; however, we encourage all parents to review them as each family’s values and beliefs may differ.
Teacher Will Provide: Study Guide, Reading Assignments, & Discussion Homework.
High School Credit: Additional assignments, final essays/projects, and grading rubric will be provided for credit qualifications.
Parent Will Provide: notebook, pen, highlighter, post-it notes, and chosen books.
Grading: For this class, parents are responsible for assigning grades, while Liberty Grace Academy provides engaging instruction and meaningful learning experiences.
