Varsity Sports & Leadership Letter Program

The Varsity Sports & Leadership Letter Program recognizes homeschool students who demonstrate commitment, discipline, leadership, teamwork, and achievement through athletics, academic clubs, and competitive extracurricular involvement.

Created specifically for homeschool families, this program provides students the opportunity to earn varsity letters and recognition comparable to traditional school programs while maintaining the flexibility and freedom of home education.

The program includes two levels of achievement:

  • Steadfast Athletes (Grades 7–9): Recognizing developing student-athletes and leaders who demonstrate perseverance, growth, teamwork, and Christ-centered character.

  • Victorious Athletes (Grades 10–12): Recognizing upper-level students who exemplify leadership, excellence, integrity, and faithful dedication in both competition and service.

Students may qualify through participation in organized sports, athletic training, competitive leagues, homeschool teams, recreational programs, private athletics, martial arts, dance, equestrian sports, and other approved athletic activities. Students may also qualify through leadership and competitive club participation such as Chess Club, Speech & Debate, academic competitions, leadership organizations, and other approved extracurricular programs.

Program Emphasis

The program emphasizes growth in the following areas:

  • Athletic and personal skill development

  • Leadership and teamwork

  • Sportsmanship, integrity, and character

  • Discipline and perseverance

  • Communication and critical thinking

  • Commitment to training, practice, and competition

  • Healthy habits and personal responsibility

  • Christlike character on and off the field, court, stage, or platform

Approved Participation Categories

Students may qualify through (but are not limited to):

  • Organized school or homeschool sports teams

  • Private coaching or training programs

  • Competitive leagues and tournaments

  • Performing arts (dance, gymnastics, cheer, theater performance where applicable)

  • Martial arts programs and belt progression systems

  • Equestrian sports and training programs

  • Fitness, endurance, or competitive training programs (triathlon, running clubs, etc.)

  • Academic and leadership competitions (Chess Club, Speech & Debate, Mock Trial, Robotics, Academic Decathlon)

  • Club sports and enrichment programs

  • Peer Mentorship Programs

  • Ministry Leadership & Worship Teams

  • Youth Leadership Councils

Approved Sports/Leadership Clubs

The following activities are commonly eligible for the program because they are not widely available in traditional public school athletics:

  • Equestrian sports (dressage, show jumping, cross country,)

  • Fencing

  • Archery (competitive target or field archery)

  • Sailing and competitive boating

  • Surfing and competitive ocean sports

  • Rock climbing (indoor and outdoor competitive climbing)

  • Skiing and snowboarding competition

  • Ice skating (figure skating, synchronized skating, hockey)

  • Martial arts (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Karate, Taekwondo, Judo, Muay Thai, etc.)

  • Dance competition teams (ballet, hip hop, contemporary, etc.)

  • Gymnastics (competitive club-based programs)

  • Weightlifting / Olympic lifting programs

  • Triathlon training and competition

  • Adventure racing / obstacle course racing (OCR)

  • Fly fishing competition (where applicable)

  • Paintball or airsoft competitive leagues (where structured and safety-certified)

  • Rodeo and western performance sports (where available)

  • Golfing

  • Skateboarding

  • Volleyball (beach or court)

If your sport, activity, or competitive program is not listed, please contact the Program Director to discuss eligibility and approval opportunities. Additional activities may qualify if they demonstrate consistent training, participation, leadership development, and measurable achievement.

Program requirements and specific expectations for the Varsity Sports & Leadership Letter Program will be shared with enrolled students during the application process to ensure full understanding prior to acceptance and participation.
